United Nations Warns Japan on Religious Freedom | JWnews

Ms. Seibert-Fohr, raised the issue of abductions and so-called “deprogramming” as she said. She explained that the Committee came to know about cases of abductions and forced religious de-conversions of members of the Unification Church and Jehovah’s Witnesses, that adults were abducted and confined by their families for up to six months or more, and that there was a lack of investigation and police search, under the justification that they were “with their families”.

At least one person in Japan has been infected with HIV from a blood transfusion.

A spokesman for the Japanese Red Cross Society said Tuesday that a male donor tested positive for HIV this month.

Strong earthquake shakes tsunami-weary Japan


Earthquake with a magnitude of 7.3 hit Japan’s northeastern coast.

The quake hit at 9:57 local time (0057 GMT), and a warning of a tsunami was issued for most of the northeastern coastline. The epicenter of the quake was in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Japan’s main island, Honshu, at a depth of about 20 miles (30 kilometers).

Japanese officials predicted the quake could generate tsunami.

Japan: Fukushima Nuclear Plants new cover.


With a lightweight construction compared to the thick reinforced concrete of a reactor building, it will form a seal around the damaged building and reduce any ongoing emission of radioactivity and protect the building from the weather.

Japan: 7 injured in earthquake. . .日本:7地震で負傷


An earthquake measuring 5.4 struck central Japan today, injuring seven people. However, there were no casualties or serious damage. The epicentre of the quake, recorded at 9.16 am local time, was located in Nagano Prefecture, about 120 km from the capital Tokyo. The Japanese Meteorological Agency reports that no tsunami warning was launched after the shock of an initial 5.5 magnitude on the Richter scale, since lowered by a decimal point. Most of the wounded were hit by debris or objects falling from houses and roofs, but none of them are in a serious condition.

Public order still rules amid devastation in Japan.


In the beleaguered town, where almost 40,000 evacuees take refuge, food is scarce, just one rice ball a day, but not the social discipline and courtesies of regular Japanese life. City Hall has transformed into a processing zone for survivors, who pore quietly, and often sadly, over regular registration updates from the 106 separate emergency shelters citywide.

Watchtower announcement: Earthquake and tsunami in Japan. 03/16/11


There are approximately 2,300 Witnesses in the areas affected by the tsunami. Sadly, preliminary reports received on March 15 confirm that 2 Witnesses were killed and 115 were missing. Five houses of worship used by the Witnesses, called Kingdom Halls, were destroyed.

A man was pulled from what is left of Ishimaki, a town in Miyagi, the region closest to the quake’s epicenter. Few details are known about his condition.
