A fight over proposed housing in Brooklyn Bridge Park and how to pay for park operations reached a new stage on Tuesday.

The partially built 85-acre park was originally to be funded by adding around 700 units of housing in the park. But locals balked, saying that housing would detract from the park.

FYI – Targeting The World’s Worst Religious Persecutors.

The most important test of a government’s legitimacy is whether it protects basic human rights, most obviously life and liberty. The foundation is freedom conscience, including religious liberty. Governments unwilling to respect their citizen’s faith in God and view of the transcendent are not likely to treat people with dignity in other ways.

US embassy cables: Concerns over Vietnamese crackdown.

However, these situations are primarily “land disputes,” do not meet the statutory requirement in the 1998 International Religious Freedom Act, and should not divert our attention from the significant gains in expanding religious freedoms that Vietnam has made since the lifting of CPC designation in November 2006. Landmark religious freedom case victory in Russia.

Critics said the law is applied randomly and unfairly. At a news conference in Moscow, Kalistratov’s lawyer read from a Russian Orthodox catechism that described other religions as being “from the devil,” and said that if the same logic that prosecutors applied to his case were applied to such literature, thousands or even millions of Russian Orthodox believers would have to be put on trial.

Recently, the Selectmen of Falmouth issued a permit to a local Baptist Church to hold Easter Sunday services on a public beach.
