Extreme rains in southwest Nigeria from July 6 through July 12, 2017, caused flooding in the states of Lagos, Niger, and Oyo. News reports indicate that at least 18 people have died as a result.

After a Protestant Pastor and five foreign guests held baptisms in hot springs near Almaty, a court fined all six and ordered one foreigner deported, deeming they had conducted illegal “missionary activity”. A Baptist pastor succeeded in overturning a police fine for leading his church.

A court in the capital Astana has fined a company running a gift shop at Astana Airport for offering nine Muslim books for sale and ordered the section of the shop closed for three months. The court has considered 14 other administrative cases so far in 2017 to punish exercise of freedom of religion or belief.

Jehovah’s Witnesses’ translation of Bible goes to court

As is known, on 26 April 2016 the Vyborg city court of Leningrad province began consideration of a lawsuit by the Leningrad-Finland transport prosecutor’s office for finding publications of the Jehovah’s Witnesses (who are, as is known, banned by the Supreme Court on the territory of the RF) that were seized by Vyborg customs to be extremist.

Ban on “Jehovah’s Witnesses” tied to influence of the ROC ?

The head of the Moscow Helsinki Group, Lyudmila Alekseeva, considered that the ban on “Jehovah’s Witnesses” is connected with the influence of the Russian Orthodox Church, the “Caucasian Knot” reports .

Russia’s Ban on Jehovah’s Witnesses Upheld

Russia’s Supreme Court has upheld a ban on the Jehovah’s Witnesses, naming it an “extremist organization” and charging that its members “pose a threat to the rights of citizens, public order and public security.”

As a result of the ruling, the Witnesses’ Russian headquarters will be closed, and the properties belonging to local chapters will be now become property of the state.
