Press release, Jehovah’s Witnesses: April 19, 2011.
In most gatherings of Jehovah’s Witnesses safely last night the memories of Christ’s death.

Bulgaria: Religious Freedom.

International Religious Freedom Report 2010

The constitution ( Bulgarian ) provides for freedom of religion, and other laws and policies contributed to the generally free practice of religion. However, the constitution designates Eastern Orthodox Christianity as the “traditional” religion, exempting it from having to register in court as required for all other religious groups.

The government generally respected the religious freedom of registered religious groups. There were some concerns

Experts: 15 ‘Dangerous’ Religious Sects Active in Bulgaria.


The seminar has been organized by the CRNRM and the Varna and Veliki Preslav Bishopric of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.
Among the most active “destructive” sects are the Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Krishna Followers, and the Charismatists, according to Prof. Alexander Dvorkin, Director of the Center for Religious Research and of the Russian Association for Studying Religions and Sects.

US State Department 2009 Report on Bulgaria Religious Freedom.


The Constitution provides for freedom of religion and prohibits religious discrimination but designates Eastern Orthodox Christianity as the “traditional” religion. Laws executing these provisions are ambiguous, giving scope to arbitrary decisions with respect to public practice of religion by unregistered groups.
On October 8, 2008, the Plovdiv municipal police stopped a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses and issued her a warning not to distribute religious literature.

Bulgarian Nationalists Demand Ban of Jehovah Witnesses.


Orthodox 82.6%, Muslim 12.2%

The Jehovah Witnesses are a dangerous sect and has to be abolished in Bulgaria, the nationalist VMRO party has declared in a letter sent to the Bulgarian press.

Will justice be served ?

Article 163(1) punishes “those persons who participate in a crowd for attack on groups of the population, individual citizens or their property in connection with their national or racial belonging” in which case the instigators and leaders face a punishment of imprisonment of up to five years, while other participants face punishment of up to one year imprisonment or corrective labor.

Bulgaria. You decide ! 2009


Bulgaria Church Organizes Anti-Jehovah’s Witnesses March.

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church is organizing on October 11 a march in the northeastern city of Dobrich against the planned international congress of Jehovah’s Witnesses there.

The Congress is also planned for October 11.

The Church is joined by the political parties VMRO and Bulgarian New Democracy. At their Thursday press conference the organizers voiced hope Dobrich’s citizens will also take part in the march.

China: Clampdown Spreads To Churches


While leaders of China’s unofficial churches, which overseas groups estimate as having some 40 million followers, say their activities have little to do with politics or human rights, raids on unofficial worship have been stepped up in a recent nationwide security clampdown.

South Korea. UN calls for fair treatment of conscientious objectors.


The United Nations Human Rights Committee said the South Korean government infringed on the freedom of conscience and religious freedom by imprisoning conscientious objectors who are Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The committee demanded the government expunge their criminal records and provide adequate compensation, and set measures to prevent the recurrence of similar cases in the future, according to the Korean headquarters of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

A flax merchant from Egypt! Owner of 4th century New Testament papyrus identified.


A Princeton University researcher has identified the owner of a New Testament papyrus that dates to the time of Constantine the Great. The papyrus was discovered in the late 19th century at the Egyptian city of Oxyrhynchus, located roughly 160 kilometres south of Cairo. The document contains the first seven verses of Paul’s Letter to the Romans

Azerbaijan detains individual inciting people to sell illegal religious literature


The Gakh region’s resident Sarkhan Gadashov appealed to police department on April 18 and said that Vusal Bakirov incited him to distribute literature and brochures dedicated to the religious ‘Jehovah’s Witnesses’ sect, the Azerbaijani the Interior Ministry told Trend.
