But in 2000, a notice of the State Council has recognized the status of local associations of worship of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Similarly, prefectural, 2002, 2003 and 2006 have given this status to the three national bodies of the movement. “Currently, our local and national structures are associations of worship like the others, benefiting from the exemption from property tax and transfer taxes,” said Jean-Claude Pons, spokesman for the consistory, spiritual authority of the movement.
